Environment of Care Safety Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY / RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the Director of Environment of Care in monitoring and developing the Health System’s Environment of Care, Property Risk and Life Safety Programs. Helps develop a safety minded culture with a mind-set focused on prevention. Assists in developing, implementing and monitoring environmental and life safety programs and training to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Helps evaluate conditions affecting environmental health. Assists in establishing and ensuring compliance with Health System policies and procedures for the protection of patients, employees, visitors and Health System property from accidental loss, injury or damage. Promotes the University Health Customer Relation’s policy.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Associates degree from an accredited college or university in mechanical sciences, safety or environmental sciences, or related discipline, or a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional credential is required. Experience and certifications can be considered in lieu of education. One year of experience in a health care setting is preferred. Familiarity with Joint Commission standards, OSHA, DOT, EPA, TCEQ and TDSHS regulations is preferred.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Participate in safety committees to continuously improve safety.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify, analyze, and control hazards in clinical and non-clinical settings.
- Provide advice on Personal Protective Equipment requirements when working around various hazards.
- Inspect life safety building components and construction projects for deficiencies.
- Manage hazardous materials and waste according to local, state, and federal guidelines.
