Lab Technologist
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs and submits accurate results on specimens for lab analysis for the purpose of aiding the physician in diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients to include discrimination between closely similar items and correction by use of preset guidelines. Performs simple maintenance of instruments. Recognizes unusual results and/or abnormalities and takes prompt and appropriate action to assure the accuracy and validity of test results. Notifies the supervisor or section leader at points where no preset criteria for decision making are available. Assumes accountability for the dissemination of patient information to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of patients. Conducts oneself as a professional. Performs assigned duties accurately and rapidly.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associates degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical lab technology
OR
Education and training equivalent to an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology (letter of equivalency must be supported by an accrediting agency)
OR
High school graduate or equivalent AND successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist
OR
Medical Laboratory Science student within their last 6 months of graduation from an accredited clinical training program. Approval documentation must be received from the Medical Laboratory Science Program indicating that they have successfully completed the clinical rotation in the area they will be working.
